About the Florida State Farriers Association

Incorporated in Florida as a non-profit corporation in 1980, the FSFA uniquely stands as one of the American Farrier Association’s oldest state chapters. As Florida’s horse population is largely concentrated in the Hillsborough, Marion, and Palm Beach county areas, our membership’s locations parallel those of their customers. However, with Florida being the 3rd largest state for number of horses, stables are widely dispersed across the state and a strong farrier base can easily be found in any city where quality work is needed.

Per USDA studies completed in 1997 and 2002, the state experienced a 43% increase in our full time horse population. In addition due to Florida’s excellent winter climate and outstanding training and exhibition facilities, significant increases in equine numbers are seen across half the year along with higher demands for farrier work. Therefore, an excellent opportunity has been created for those looking to apprentice with a quality Certified Journeyman in our multi-disciplined horse marketplace.

The FSFA is also know for its support to international competition and each year sponsors the “Florida Team” at the World Championship Blacksmiths “Olympics of Blacksmithing” held at the Calgary Stampede. Our President, Bryce Burnett currently ranks 4th overall in their Stone Well Striker Points standing.
